We're two students who got tired of watching AI make learning "faster" instead of better.
Coursenaut is built and run by Joshua and Hannah Desrosiers — siblings, co-founders, and students at Marcy Lab School in Brooklyn, NY, a tuition-free, non-traditional program that trains adults from underrepresented backgrounds for careers in software engineering and product design.
Where this started
Marcy Lab School doesn't teach the way most schools do. There's no lecture hall, no one-size-fits-all curriculum — cohorts learn by building real software, getting real feedback, and being held to a real professional bar from day one. It's an intensely project-based, individualized way to learn a hard technical skill in under a year, and it's shaped everything we believe about education.
When generative AI made it trivial to produce a course outline in seconds, we noticed almost every product built on top of that just automated the worst part of traditional schooling: a wall of text, a multiple-choice quiz, done. Faster to make, not better to learn from. We built Coursenaut to test a different bet.
If AI can write a curriculum instantly, that time savings should go toward making the curriculum more interactive — not toward making more of the same passive reading.
What we actually believe
Learning is active, or it doesn't stick
Every course on Coursenaut can carry live code editors, simulations, and graded labs directly inside a lesson — not a link to somewhere else.
AI should ground itself in truth
Course generation can be grounded in an org's own uploaded material instead of the model's general knowledge, specifically to cut down on hallucinated content.
A credential should mean something
Every certificate Coursenaut issues has a public, permanent verification link — because "I finished a course" should be checkable, not just claimed.
Who's building it
No investors, no outside team — just the two of us, building in public, shipping what our own testing tells us is broken or missing.
